Not Draining
Overflow and tray siphoning often pair with drainage faults.
Learn more →A puddle in front, a drip behind, a wet wall beside — every leak position tells a different story. Here's how the source is traced and what each repair involves.
| Leak Position | Likely Source | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Front, under the door (front load) | Door boot/gasket torn or fouled | Gasket replacement |
| Back, near wall | Inlet hose joint or valve seep | Re-seal / valve replace |
| Under the machine | Drain hose joint, pump seal, tub seal | Seal/hose replacement |
| Front-bottom corner | Detergent tray overflow or siphoning | Tray clean / hose height fix |
| Only during fill | Inlet valve or hose | Valve/hose service |
| Only during spin | Gasket, tub seal or oversudsing | Depends on trace — we test |
Machine opened dry — hoses, joints, tray, valve seats and gasket folds examined for scale trails that mark old leaks.
Machine run through fill, wash, drain and spin with the panels off, watching each stage for the exact leak moment.
The failed seal, hose or valve replaced with a genuine part — not a patch that returns in a month.
Leak test repeated across all cycle stages before we pack up. You sign off on a dry floor.

Learn more →Technicians trace leaks by timing, not by guessing at seals. The moment water appears in the cycle eliminates half the machine before any panel comes off.
High-speed spin is when a torn door boot lip or a failing tub seal weeps, and an unbalanced load can fling spray past the gasket. If the puddle returns on every spin even with a balanced load, the boot or seal is failing and needs replacement, not watching. Spray reaching the base on every spin can also trip the mains — our tripping guide explains that failure.
Fill-time leaks point upstream of the tub: inlet hose joints, a seeping inlet valve solenoid seat, or the detergent tray siphoning over. Dry the area, run one fill only, and watch each joint — the wet one names itself. Joints that weep at the thread usually trace back to routing, which is set during installation.
Off-machine puddling means a slow weep: grit holding an inlet valve partly open, a pinhole in the tub-to-pump hose, or a drain hose joint that drips under residual head. These leaks waste water continuously and are cheap to fix once traced — our inlet valve replacement service resolves the commonest case.
When timing alone cannot settle it, our monitored leak-tracing run above pins the source across all four cycle stages — and pairs well with the door gasket replacement service when the boot turns out to be the culprit. Left alone, chronic damp eventually reaches the electronics — our PCB repair bench sees the downstream result.

Spin-only leaks point to the door boot/gasket (front load) or spray and splash from an unbalanced high-speed load (top load). Persistent spin leaks mean a gasket or seal is failing and needs replacement before it damages flooring or electrics.
Yes — water pooling near a mains-powered appliance risks short circuits and shock, and chronic damp rots floors and breeds mould. Stop using the machine and keep the area dry until it's repaired.
No. Gasket leaks need a proper door boot replacement — sealants fail within weeks, trap mould, and can damage the drum edge. Genuine gaskets are affordable and last years.
Slow weep leaks — a pinhole in the tub-to-pump hose, a weeping pump shaft seal or a slow inlet valve drip — pool only after several cycles. Dry the floor completely and place paper under the machine between washes; the sheet shows exactly when and where the seep returns. Then book a trace visit.
Yes — excess or wrong detergent pushes foam past the gasket lip and out of the detergent tray, leaving water that looks like a leak but is not. If the puddle is soapy and appears with certain detergents, dose less and switch to HE formula first; the dosing rules are in our maintenance guide.
The shaft seal sits behind the inner drum and keeps water out of the drum bearings. When it hardens and weeps, water tracks into the bearings and drips as a greasy rust-stained drop under the tub's centre — with bearing rumble close behind. A bearing and seal job must then be done together.
Heat expands joints and softens aged rubber, so marginal hose clamps, a tired gasket or the heating-element grommet weep only at temperature. That pattern localises the search to hot-side joints, and on front loaders the heater area becomes a prime suspect.
Indirectly — a kinked outlet hose or clogged standpipe backs water up until it overflows at the weakest joint, usually the pump outlet or standpipe elbow. If the puddle appears exactly at drain time, check the drain path before blaming any seal; our not-draining guide covers those checks.
A short monitored fill-and-drain is usually fine, but avoid a spin on a machine leaking near the base — water and the motor compartment sit close together. Note when the leak appears instead; our tracing procedure already runs a full monitored cycle with the panels off, and you can request it through a doorstep visit.
A worn inlet valve solenoid seat or grit trapped on it can seep continuously, slowly filling the tub even when switched off — a rising water level overnight is the giveaway. That seep wastes water and can overflow; an inlet valve replacement stops it at the source.
Faults travel together because their parts overlap — a drainage failure can dress itself up as a spin problem. These related guides, parts and services help you narrow the cause before booking.
Leaks advertise their location if you read them — front-left weeping means the door boot, back-flow means hoses, under-machine means pump or tub seals. Gasket tears are fixed via the gasket service; persistent drips after filling implicate the inlet valve.
