1. Run a Monthly Hot Maintenance Wash
Empty cycle at 60°C with a washer cleaner or citric acid. This dissolves detergent sludge and hard-water scale before they kill heaters and valves. Between these hot washes, everyday cold-water cycles are kinder to the machine — the savings are in our cold-water washing guide.
2. Leave the Door & Tray Open
Front loaders especially: trapped moisture grows mould in gasket folds within days. Air-drying the drum is the single cheapest anti-odour habit.
3. Clean the Drain Filter Monthly
Lint, coins and hairpins strain the pump. Front loaders: bottom-front flap. Top loads: tub base. Sixty seconds, prevents the #1 breakdown.
4. Dose Detergent Correctly
More suds ≠ cleaner clothes. Excess detergent packs the filter, feeds mould and slowly destroys bearings. Use HE detergent in front loaders — measured.
5. Check the Feet Every Few Months
A machine that rocks works its own suspension to death. Level it with a spirit level; lock the jam nuts.
6. Inspect Inlet Hoses Yearly
Bulges, cracks and stiff rubber are burst-flood warnings. Replace every 4–5 years as a rule.
7. Empty Pockets — Really
Coins and hairpins destroy drain pumps; bra wires wedge in the heater and tub. One check per load saves a drain pump.
8. Don't Overload — Ever
An overstuffed drum strains bearings, trips imbalance sensors and leaves clothes dirty anyway. Fill to about three-quarters.
9. Wipe the Gasket Fold Weekly
Front loaders: pull the door boot fold back and wipe. Hairpins and mould colonies hide exactly there.
10. Book a Yearly Professional Service
A technician catches worn belts, dampers and valves before they cascade. Our AMC plans schedule this automatically.
