Semi-Automatic Washing Machine Repair Service

Twin tub and single tub washers are simple machines — which means most faults are quick, affordable fixes when done right. Timer, spin motor, drain valve, belt: repaired at your home.

Twin Tub Repairs Done Cheap & Done Right

Semi-automatic washing machines — Godrej, Whirlpool, LG, Onida, Videocon and dozens of regional brands — still wash a huge share of India's laundry. Their mechanical simplicity is a blessing for repair: most faults live in five places — wash timer, spin timer/capacitor, drain valve, drive belt and spin motor.

The trap is unskilled repair: a wrongly-wired timer or an unmatched capacitor damages the motor permanently. Our technicians carry correct-rated spares and test every repair through full wash and spin cycles. When the spin tub hums but will not turn, the usual culprits are ranked in our not-spinning guide.

Upgrade Path: Thinking of Going Automatic?

If your twin tub needs a major repair (gear box or both motors), it's worth comparing that bill against a new fully automatic machine. Our honest guide on repair vs replace walks through the maths with real numbers — no upselling.

The Five Trouble Spots of a Twin Tub

Semi-automatic reliability lives and dies in five assemblies — the wash timer, spin timer and capacitor, drain valve, drive belts and the spin motor. Each is mechanically simple, which is why correct diagnosis and correct-rated spares matter more than complexity: a mismatched capacitor or bypassed timer quietly destroys a motor that was otherwise fine.

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers about our washing machine service, repair process, warranty and pricing.

My semi-automatic's spin tub doesn't spin — worth repairing?

Almost always yes. The usual causes — spin capacitor, lid safety switch, spin motor coupling or belt — are inexpensive parts. Even a 10-year-old twin tub is usually worth repairing when the fault is this accessible.

Why is my spin tub making a loud rattling noise?

Unbalanced load first — but if the rattle persists with a balanced load, the spin tub's cushioning rings or spider support may have failed. We check balancing, bearings and base suspension before quoting.

Do you service old Videocon and Onida semi-automatics?

Yes. We keep compatible generic spares (timers, capacitors, valves, belts) for legacy Videocon, Onida and Electrolux washers whose company service no longer exists.

Why does my wash timer stick at one setting?

Twin-tub timers are clockwork cams over switch contacts; detergent vapour and arcing pit the contacts until the cam stalls mid-cycle. A stalled timer also leaves the wash motor energised and overheating, so it should never be bypassed — our doorstep repair fits a correct-duration timer instead.

What does the spin capacitor do, and how does it fail?

The run capacitor gives the spin motor its starting torque to bring a heavy wet load up to speed. As it weakens with heat and age, the spinner hums, starts slowly, or fails only with a full tub. Replacement is inexpensive, but the rating must match exactly — see our capacitor replacement service.

Why won't the drain valve open or shut properly?

The twin-tub drain valve is a cable-and-flap arrangement, and lint sludge plus a perished flap seal keep it partly open — so the tub never fills properly — or jammed shut, so water stands after the wash. Cleaning and reseating the flap fixes both in one visit; the underlying logic is in our not-draining guide.

Can the spin motor be repaired, or is replacement the only option?

Usually repaired — worn carbon brushes, a dead run capacitor and corroded terminals account for most spin motor complaints on semi-automatics. Only burnt windings or a seized motor bearing justify a full swap, which our motor repair service determines with proper testing before quoting.

Does overloading really damage a semi-automatic?

It does, cumulatively — an overloaded wash tub stalls the belt and overheats the wash motor, while an overloaded spin tub crushes its cushioning rings and rattles loose. Belts glaze, motors run hot and bearings wear early; washing half-full loads, as our maintenance habits recommend, avoids all of it.

How do I stop the spinner base from rusting?

Wipe the spin tub rim and base dry after the last wash of the day and leave the lids open so trapped moisture escapes. Rust that starts under the base plate spreads to the motor mounts and spider support within a couple of monsoons — an early deep cleaning service strips the residue that feeds it.

Why is wash water ending up in my spinner tub?

That happens when the drain valve flap fails to seat or the wash tub is filled past its drain standpipe, letting water spill across into the spinner. We check valve seating, hose routing and tub drain paths together — describe the symptom through our contact page and we will bring the likely spares along.

Related Services, Component Guides & Fixes

Every service pairs with component work and fault knowledge — replacement goes smoother when you know the failure chain behind it. These related pages cover the full workflow.

Twin tubs split their faults between wash and spin sides — timers, drain valves and spin motors mostly. Fill-side issues map to the inlet valve, spinner weakness to the capacitor.
