No Spin / Slow Spin
Clutch wear, worn drive belt, weak capacitor or failing lid switch — tested under load and replaced same visit.
Not spinning guide →Agitator and impeller top loaders — India's most common washer family — repaired at home: spin faults, clutch and gear box issues, lid switches, belts and water system problems.
Top load washing machines — from Whirlpool and Godrej to LG and Samsung — dominate Indian homes for good reason: they're quick, affordable and easy to load. Their weak points are just as well known: clutches, gear boxes, drive belts, lid switches and drain valves.
Our vans carry the common top load spares, so the overwhelming majority of these repairs — spin not working, agitator not moving, machine not draining, loud clutch noise — are completed in a single doorstep visit. Electrical-side failures — motors, capacitors, wiring — come under our motor repair service.
Clutch wear, worn drive belt, weak capacitor or failing lid switch — tested under load and replaced same visit.
Not spinning guide →Lint-clogged drain valve, blocked hose or failed pump motor cleared and replaced.
Drainage guide →Agitator dogs stripped, impeller loose or drive coupling broken — agitation restored to full strength.
Faulty console PCB, blown capacitor or wiring faults diagnosed with proper instruments.
PCB repair →Overfilling, slow fill or fill-while-drain — inlet valve, pressure sensor and drain valve corrected together.
Gear box whine, basket scraping or base-plate rattle diagnosed and silenced properly.
Both live in our workshop scope. Semi-automatic twin tubs (wash tub + spinner) need timer, spin motor, drain valve and bearing care. Fully automatic top loaders add electronic PCBs, water-level sensors and auto-dosing — all repairable at component level. See our dedicated semi-automatic repair page and fully automatic repair page for details.
A top load washer is a drivetrain first and a tub second: the motor turns a gear transmission that alternates between agitate and spin, a clutch engages the high-speed gear, and suspension rods cradle the whole basket. Knowing the chain makes every symptom readable. The typical charge for each link in that chain is listed in our repair cost guide.
| Drivetrain Part | Role | Failure Sign |
|---|---|---|
| Agitator / impeller | Pushes clothes through the wash water | Weak wash action; stripped agitator dogs or loose impeller |
| Gear transmission | Converts one motor direction into agitate and spin | Whining, slipping between modes, wash and spin together |
| Clutch | Engages the spin gear at speed | Spins empty, stalls with wet clothes |
| Drive belt | Links motor to transmission | Squeal at spin start, glazed or snapped belt |
| Lid switch | Safety input that permits spin | No spin at all despite healthy motor |
| Suspension rods (set of 4) | Support the basket and damp spin travel | Thrashing, walking, repeated imbalance aborts |
Deep-dives for the parts that fail most: our clutch and gearbox repair, drive belt replacement and agitator repair pages explain each fix in detail.

The basket is turning too slowly or stalling under load — typically a worn clutch, weak drive belt, or a gear box slipping. We test spin speed under a real load and replace whichever component has failed.
That's a classic syphoning or drain valve fault: the drain hose sits too low, or the drain valve seal isn't closing fully. We correct hose height and service or replace the valve.
Yes — fully automatic top loaders (Whirlpool 360, LG Top Load FA, Samsung WA series) share the same basket, clutch and gear architecture, plus electronic controls and sensors which we also repair.
It is the gearbox heart of a top loader: the motor turns it in one direction, and its internal gearing converts that into the back-and-forth of agitation and the fast one-way basket spin. When its cams or clutch and gear transmission wear, you get weak wash action, mode-slipping or spin during agitation.
The wash action differs but the drivetrain underneath is the same. Agitator models usually fail at the stripped agitator dogs or a cracked base fitting; impeller models show a loose impeller plate wobbling on the shaft. Both fall under our agitator and impeller repair service.
The lid switch is the safety interlock that tells the control the lid is closed — no signal, no spin, on every top loader ever made. A bent lid strike or fatigued switch contacts cut the spin circuit while the motor stays perfectly healthy, which is why our lid switch repair always includes strike alignment and wiring checks.
The four rods that cradle the basket typically flatten their friction pads after five to seven years, letting the tub thrash side-to-side during spin. Uneven floors and chronic overloading accelerate the wear; replacing the suspension rod set protects the gear transmission from shock loads too.
Not advisable — a squeal at spin start means the belt is slipping and glazing, and a glazed belt overheats, then snaps mid-spin with a soaked load trapped inside. A timely drive belt replacement is a minutes-long job; a snapped one adds motor strain and coupling damage to the bill.
Three extras on top of the usual: clean the lint filter inside the tub monthly, dose detergent modestly so sludge never reaches the pressure-sensor air dome, and keep the feet level so imbalance sensing does not abort spins. The full routine is in our maintenance guide.
A walking machine is unbalanced tub travel: worn suspension rods, uneven feet or genuinely lopsided loads each produce it, often together. We check levelling, rod damping and basket alignment as a set — the pattern matches our vibration and shaking guide.
Every service pairs with component work and fault knowledge — replacement goes smoother when you know the failure chain behind it. These related pages cover the full workflow.
Top loads wear where they work hardest — agitator dogs, gear transmission and lid safety. Wash-action faults route through the agitator service, weak extraction through the clutch & gearbox guide.
